FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are you accepting new patients?

YES we are! Your initial appointment as a new patient includes a comprehensive exam, x-rays and a consultation.  At the time of the consultation, our staff will go over your treatment plan and payment options and will assist you in scheduling for any future appointments.

How much will my initial visit be?

The dentist will perform the exam, take a look at the x-rays and recommend a course of treatment that is right for you.  Our staff will review pricing information and talk to you about payment options.  We can discuss ways to make the treatment affordable for you.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept most major dental insurance plans, Children's Medicaid, and Texas CHIP.  Please call our office at 713-334-7333 so we can better assist you.

Do you see children?

YES, our office provides complete family dentistry for all ages.  We see children as young as 6 months old.

When should I bring my child in for his/her first appointment?

As soon as the first baby tooth erupts, a child should be brought into the dental office for a dental appointment.

When should I start brushing my baby's teeth?

Start brushing baby teeth as soon as they come in using a soft wash cloth.

Can my 16 year old bring her 8 year old brother to his appointment?

All patients under the age of eighteen must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during an office visit.

Are dental x-rays really necessary?

YES.  Many diseases, lesions, and conditions can only be detected with the use of dental radiographs.  It is impossible to see directly between the teeth or under the gums or bone without the use of a dental radiograph.  Many times the patient has no signs or symptoms of disease.  Dental x-rays can detect disease much sooner than the clinical examination alone.  This enables the dentist to identify problems early so that pain and extensive, costly treatment can be avoided.

Can I schedule an appointment for a cleaning only?

Based on your exam and x-rays, the doctor will be able to diagnose the proper cleaning necessary for you.  Dependent on the type of cleaning that is needed, we want to be sure that we allow proper time for the service to be performed.

I’m pregnant; can I come in for a cleaning?

Yes, prior to your first visit, we recommend that you obtain a medical release form from your OB/GYN, indicating that you can be seen in a dental office.  You can have your OB/GYN fax the release form to 713-334-7330, or you can bring the form to your first dental appointment.

Why do my gums become sensitive and bleed during brushing?

Sensitive, bleeding gums can occur for several reasons - ranging from medical problems or pregnancy, to being overdue for a cleaning, having periodontal (gum) disease or having improper home care (brushing & flossing).  A build up of plaque or tartar increases the amount of bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria contributes to swollen gums resulting in bleeding and tenderness. For a proper diagnosis regarding your specific concerns, please call 713-334-7333 to schedule a dental appointment.

How will I know if my fillings need to be replaced?

Your dentist can diagnose the need to replace fillings and make treatment recommendations.  The materials used in fillings can begin to wear away over time. When this occurs, the filling becomes a trap for plaque and bacteria. In time, a cavity can develop. See your dentist regularly, as recommended, to avoid additional discomfort and damage.

How can I tell if I lost a filling or cracked a tooth?

From a patient's perspective, similar discomfort or sensation can occur with either situation. The tooth will need to be assessed by a dentist to determine the specific diagnosis. Please call 713-334-7333 to schedule an appointment.

What is Zoom! whitening? How does it compare to other forms of whitening?

There are several ways to whiten your teeth.  Our dentist can help you determine the best whitening method for your unique smile.

The Zoom! whitening system requires just one dental appointment and achieves the same results as tray whitening, but within hours instead of weeks.  Zoom! uses whitening gel and a special lamp to increase the effectiveness of the gel.

Tray whitening uses custom-made trays to fit your teeth. This requires at least two appointments to be fitted for the trays. When the trays are complete, you fill the trays with gel and wear them 1 to 2 hours each day for a period of about two weeks.

Various whitening products can be purchased over the counter; however, these products usually cannot get your teeth as white as custom trays or Zoom! and it often takes much longer to see results. As with all whitening systems or products, results may vary and sensitivity can occur.

Why don't you list prices?

The pricing for services and procedures varies.  The best thing is to come on in, meet the doctor and the rest of the staff, and we can give you an estimate from there.  Without an evaluation from the doctor, we are unable to determine what treatment is needed or recommended for your needs.  Our prices are very comparable to other providers in the market.

How do I schedule an appointment with the oral surgeon, periodontist, endodontist or orthodontist?

To schedule an appointment with a dental specialist, you will need a referral for that specific specialist from a general dentist.  We are happy to make the necessary referrals and direct you towards the specialist you need.

Are your hours flexible?

We know you lead a busy life. Although we will always try to accommodate you to schedule the times that you desire, it's good to remember that popular times will usually be harder to get.  Late afternoon and early morning appointments tend to book up quickly in our office.  Our staff will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs.

What if I have to cancel an appointment?

Appointments are sometimes missed due to unavoidable circumstances. We encourage you to call our dental office if you are unable to make a scheduled appointment. Our dental office prefers 24-48 hours notice.  To keep your costs down and help the dental office provide the best access to care for everyone, we urge our patients to keep scheduled appointments or call ahead to cancel.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!
